About Us

Eric and Karen Sonne combined their experience in entrepreneurship, sales, and marketing and founded a venture that would benefit from their expertise. From their personal experience in the caregiving of Eric’s grandmother the new venture combines entrepreneurial spirit and their passion for assisting seniors and so Freedom Medical Transportation was born. Since its inception in 2010 Freedom Medical Transportation has been serving the local tri-county area and their services have been well received by the local hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation care facilities. In 2015 they were awarded the prestigious "Small Business Award of the Year" and were proud to receive such an honor.

They are a true ma and pa company and literally work 24/7. Eric handles the day-to-day operations and Karen does all the dispatching. Because they are hands-on owners Freedom Medical Transportation has developed an excellent reputation and both of them feel very blessed and grateful to the community for their support in their endeavors.

Karen trained as an Emergency Medical Technical (EMT) and is now in charge of sales and marketing. Eric has an extensive background in business and handles the day-to-day operation of the company. They started with one van working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they have since grown to a fleet of six vans.

Freedom Medical Transportation hires EMT’s and a select group of caring individuals who want to make a difference in the community. These drivers are also hands-on with the patients giving them an invaluable experience when transitioning into other fields such as firefighters, medics, and registered nurses.

Karen and Eric are passionate in giving back to the community and attend many charity events. Both are avid animal lovers and Karen hosts the annual "Party for the Paws", a local fund raiser. PFTP benefits the Salinas animal shelters as well and the Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP). To date Karen and her committee have raised more than the $80,000 for these charities.
